The Best Mediterranean Classic Chicken Salad

The Classic Chicken Salad is a fresh and tasty preparation, perfect for the summer season: it is prepared in 15 minutes, starting from cold chicken, and you can serve it as a main course and second course, according to your needs.

To prevent the knife from oxidizing the lettuce leaves, we advise you to gently break it up with your hands; as an alternative to this, you can use the canasta, the ' iceberg salad, the lamb's lettuce, or fresh spinach.

You can replace the chicken with a roast turkey or veal, perhaps leftover from the previous day's lunch; you can also buy slices of chicken breast or thighs, then grill them at the moment and add them into strips in the ready-made salad. You can also enrich it with diced cooked ham or, for a vegetarian version, with an omelet or parmesan flakes.

For an even richer chicken salad, you can add the desalted capers, dried tomatoes, and sliced almonds, lightly toasted in a pan.

We have decided to dress the salad with a dill dressing, but you can replace it with classic mayonnaise, a Greek yogurt sauce, coriander, garlic, lemon, and fresh mint, or a simple vinaigrette based on oil, vinegar, and salt.

If you liked this recipe, try these five variations, one more colorful and greedy than the other does.

If unseasoned, the salad can be stored in the refrigerator, in a special airtight container, for several hours. After adding the condiments and dressing it is preferable to consume it as quickly as possible.

We place our salad thus locked in the crisper of the fridge, and it should keep for a good week!

Then, without rinsing, we will wring out the salad and put it in a plastic bag directly in the fridge. Our salad can be stored like this for a good week.

Knife is a no no

Another tip to keep the salad as long as possible is to cut the base of the salad and remove the leaves, before placing the washed and dried leaves in the fridge in a container covered with a paper towel. everything to absorb humidity, with the obligation to change the sheet every day. But be careful, to cut the salad, it is strongly recommended to do everything by hand, and not with a knife! Indeed, the metal will necessarily have an oxidizing effect on the leaves of the salad. Once our salad is stripped, we can place it in a container, covered

Confined In A Salad Bowl

Here's a tip that doesn't even require washing the salad right after purchase; to keep it fresh as long as possible, we will place the entire salad in a large bowl (the leaves must be able to breathe). Salad bowl that we will cover with stretch cling film, well stretched, and place in the bottom of our fridge to prevent it from being too cold. Then, all we have to do is help ourselves as soon as we want salad!

A Puffy Tip

Here is another very simple trick to keep your salad as long as possible: as soon as you buy it, you will delicately peel it, and place the leaves in a plastic bag. Except that before closing the bag, we will blow in it, like a balloon, just to fill it with air. Then, we will rotate the bag on itself to close it and tie a knot. And head for the fridge, where our salad will keep for a good week!

Revive A Withered Salad

If despite all these good tips our salad looks gray when you take it out of the fridge, don't panic! There is indeed a very simple and very effective method to breathe new life into a withered salad: we will plunge our tired salad into a large bowl of cold water, with sugar. Three-quarters of an hour later, our salad will come out like new!
